Hlib Semiakin
Biography
When we talk about a building, not only its style but also its typology is important. That's why we would like to introduce you to a teacher, architect, and researcher who knows a lot about constructivist hospitals, Hlib Semiakin.
Hlib has been fascinated by the word of art since childhood. Initially, he studied at the Lyceum of Arts, at the theater arts department. Then he decided to dedicate his life to architecture and enrolled at the University of Architecture's lyceum. While studying there, he made his first art exhibition. After graduating from the lyceum, he enrolled at the Faculty of Architecture of the Kharkiv National University of Construction and Architecture, studying reconstruction and restoration of architectural objects.
As a sophomore, Hlib started to gain practical experience in the field of architecture, and he continues to do it to this today. Soon after graduating, he was offered the position of assistant at the Department of Architectural Constructions. Simultaneously he also began working on a dissertation on the topic “Assessment methodology and principles of preserving the architectural heritage of the 1920s – 1930s by the example of medical buildings.” In 2019, he defended his thesis at the Department of Reconstruction and Restoration of Architectural Objects, obtaining a Ph.D. in Architecture.
Hlib has been an active participant at international Docomomo conferences, concerned with the protection and conservation of 20th-century architecture. Currently, Hlib is a chair of the Department of Architectural Constructions. Beyond the research and teaching activities, he is designing public and private facilities. And he is working on the popularization of his thesis topic, making it available not only for profile specialists but also for all Kharkiv residents: to be specific, he hosts talks on Kharkiv constructivism, within the framework of the community project “Kharkiv History Night.”
